TORY CALLS FOR EU POLL GROWING

Story Image
The findings starkly show how David Cameron is defying the wishes of his natural support base
Wednesday August 10,2011

By Alison Little, Deputy Political Editor

TWO-thirds of Tory supporters would vote for Britain to leave the EU if given their say in a referendum, poll findings showed yesterday.
And three-quarters want a referendum to be held.
The findings starkly show how David Cameron is defying the wishes of his natural support base by refusing to hold such a vote.
The Daily Express bid to force a referendum passed an important milestone when our petition on the Government’s e-petition website passed the 10,000-name mark.
The scale of Tory support for a referendum emerged in fresh findings from a YouGov survey for independent MEP Nikki Sinclaire’s long-running campaign.
You can sign the official “Britain wants a referendum to leave EU’’ petition by going to www.express.co.uk/referendum

~YouGov / Nikki Sinclaire MEP Survey Results!

I Believe This Is The First Poll EVER to show a clear majority for leaving with as high as 68% of Conservative voters wishing to leave.

Of all the regions of Britain only Scotland & London did not show a majority for leaving The EU.

In every sector - region, gender, age there was over 70% who wanted a greater national debate of the issues.

Only Scotland did not want a referendum and even there 49% did!

CLEARLY BRITAIN'S POLITICIANS ARE COMPLETELY OUT OF STEP WITH THE PEOPLE & Seem To Be Representing Their Own Interests At The Expense of Britain, our peoples and democracy!

Tim CONGDON Backs THE PETITION for an EU REFERENDUM

Tim CONGDON Backs THE PETITION for an EU REFERENDUM

20,000 - 30,000 copies of this magazine will be mailed out this week to activists across Britain, from the offices of Nikki Sinclaire MEP.

The distribution had to be brought forward somewhat as this week Nikki Sinclaire is on secondment to The RAF on an Air Sea Rescue Course in Cornwall.

Once again she puts Farage & his fan club to shame.

This year alone Sinclaire has done more practiaclly for the EUroRealist cause than Farage has done with all his squabbling MEPs and salaried praise singers since they were elected in June last year!

And don't forget to sign the petition: CLICK HERE

From the magazine:

Why we need a Referendum by Tim Congdon

Clear majorities of the British people want their country to leave the European Union.

A recent YouGov poll found that 47 per cent wanted the UK out of the EU, compared with 33 per cent who preferred to stay in. Bizarrely, the latest Eurobarometer of public attitudes (financed by the European Commission) had earlier demonstrated a similar result. It showed that 33 per cent of its UK respondents regarded the EU as “a bad thing”, while 29 per cent viewed it as a “a good thing”.

The current widespread opposition to the EU is hardly surprising, as EU interventions in our national life are now disrupting long established traditions, undermining revered institutions and damaging livelihoods. The Commission, the Council of Ministers and their secretariats have used the passage of the Lisbon Treaty last year as the pretext for further encroachments on the EU member states, including the UK.

The last few months have seen a media furore over the effects of the Working Time Directive on the efficiency of British medicine and the National Health Service.

For many decades junior doctors have acquired experience – the experience which is essential if they are to be real doctors and not parrots of the textbooks – by working very long hours in real-world, often life-or-death clinical settings. Now, because of the Working Time Directive, they are prevented by law from this practice.

With lives being put in jeopardy by an EU directive, the puzzle is not that almost half of British people want to leave the EU, but why a third still believe in staying in. More and more people are angry and resentful about how EU decisions are affecting them in their daily lives.

There is a growing discrepancy between popular hostility to the EU and the willingness of successive British governments to hand over so-called “competences” to EU control.

This discrepancy is dangerous. When people believe that politicians are out-of-touch and untrustworthy, and ignore what they want, the risk of civil disobedience increases. In a modern democracy politicians must respect the wishes of citizens and voters. The case for a referendum on the UK’s continued membership of the EU is now overwhelming.

The 2009 Lisbon Treaty was undoubtedly a radical change in the constitutional arrangements of every EU member state, including the UK. All three of the main parties gave clear pledges in their manifestos at the 2005 general election to hold a referendum in the event of another big European constitutional upheaval.
Yet all three of them then judged that the Lisbon Treaty was not important enough to justify the holding of a referendum.

This is scandalous, an orchestrated insult to the intelligence of the British electorate. Britain must have a referendum on its membership of the European Union. That referendum needs to be held as soon as possible, to stop more damage being done to our traditions, our institutions and our way of life.

A - Tim CONGDON BACKS THE PETITION & FEATURES FRONT PAGE!

A - Tim CONGDON BACKS THE PETITION & FEATURES FRONT PAGE!
Hi,
Tim Congdon has unequivocally endorsed THE PETITION for a EU-Referendum and features on the front page of a free distribution magazine being mailed out to between 20 & 30,000 activists, supporters and backers across Britain from the offices of Nikki Sinclaire MEP - this will do a great deal to firmly put UKIP on the map as a democratic party that can be trusted to endorse Patriotic issues not just self interest and navel gazing for the profit of the few.
Aspects of UKIP that Tim Congdon will do all he can to progress, moving away from the endemic corruption here to fore.
Britain is a cross party issue NOT a Dog In A Manger self enrichment scheme.
UKIP should be for and about Patriotism not introspective selfish Nationalism and personal profit for the few.

European flags
Almost half of the British public would vote for Britain to leave the European Union (EU) if there were a referendum on British membership, our poll reveals. 47% would want Britain to leave the EU compared to 33% who say they would vote for Britain to retain its membership.

The older generation appear particularly keen for Britain to leave its EU days behind. A substantial 57% of those over 60 say they would vote to leave the EU, compared to 31% of the younger 18-24 age group.

This comes as Conservative European MP Daniel Hannan launches a cross-party campaign to demand a referendum on Britain’s EU membership, the promise of which has made and broken by multiple prime ministers during election campaigns.
Britain’s last national referendum was led by Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson in 1975, on the issue of membership of the European Economic Community. The ‘yes-vote’ campaign prevailed, with 66% of the population opting to remain a member of the international body.

On Monday, MPs announced their decision to hold a referendum on voting reform as an alternative to the current first-past-the-post system, a move that has added fuel to the EU Referendum Campaign. ‘There is an awful lot more demand for a referendum on EU memberships than there is for a referendum on the voting system,’ says Hannan. It seems that were a referendum to be held, British response could be significant.
