EU LEAVES HEAT AND POWER ON AT PARLIAMENT

EU bosses spend a fortune on illuminating and heating rooms which are unused for weeks on end
Sunday December 26,2010

By James Fielding

EU BOSSES are wasting thousands of pounds of British taxpayers’ money by keeping hundreds of lights burning all night in empty offices at the Strasbourg Parliament.
A fortune is spent every year illuminating and heating rooms which are unused for weeks on end.
The flagrant waste also makes a mockery of the EU’s attempts to reduce its carbon footprint and deliver a “low-energy economy”.
MEPs gather at the £400million building, on France’s border with Germany, for just four days every month.
UKIP MEP Mike Nattrass, who took this picture, last night branded the waste “disgraceful”. He photographed lights blazing away in the Parliament’s main Louise Weiss building and in the adjoining Winston Churchill block.
Light switches and radiators were left on in empty offices, hallways and even the canteen on Thursday evening, long after Eurocrats had packed up and left.
Mr Nattrass, MEP for the West Midlands, added: “This is just another example of the EU gravy train. This has gone on for too long, I am sick and tired of walking past the Strasbourg Parliament and seeing all the office lights left on when nobody is in them.
“On Thursday, voting finished just after midday and MEPs all started to drift off as usual. Hours later I took photographs of light beaming out of the Louise Weiss building and it wasn’t from one room but lots of them.
“I then went into the building the following day on Friday and checked to see if the heating was on and it was. The place was virtually deserted.
“Hardworking Britons will be sick to their stomachs to know their cash is being wasted in this manner. It’s absolutely disgraceful.”
Mr Nattrass also revealed that the majority of the 2,000 offices inside the Parliament have showers, washbasins and TVs that can pick up channels from all over the world. “It’s needless,” he said. “I’ve never used the shower in my office as long as I’ve been an MEP. Why would I need to? I have one before I leave the hotel in the morning.”

The monthly jaunt from the European Parliament in Brussels Belgium to Strasbourg, 216 miles away, is estimated to cost the public an annual £200million.
Yet MEPs are there for voting sessions on just 48 days a year.
Moving various files and equipment between the two cities takes 30 men and 10 large trucks.
The huge cost involved has led to repeated calls to have Brussels as the sole location of the Parliament.

Even at Christmas, the EU Referendum Campaign continues!

Our campaign to add 5,000 signatures in a week was a roaring success. Now we want to continue that success over the Christmas break.

Make the most of having your family and friends with you by downloading the brand new Pledge Form and getting them to add their names to the thousands already calling for an EU Referendum.

You can download the form right here.

And don't forget, you can forward this email on to your friends as well, just tell them to click on the link on the left to add their name to The Pledge.

Politicians are completely out of touch with public opinion. We have commissioned four independent opinion polls over the last three months – and they all show that the overwhelming majority of the British public want a referendum on the EU.

What are the politicians afraid of? Can you think of one reason why we can’t have a referendum? The government are spending over £80 million on a referendum on our voting system next year – why can’t we have our referendum on the same day?

Until then, have a great Christmas.

TORY PROMISES - Mr. CAMERON Be A Man & Honour OUR REFERENDUM - YOU PROMISED!

 News story

Join our campaign for an EU referendum

Monday, April 27 2009

Ahead of the European elections on 4th June, David Cameron has launched a campaign to get Gordon Brown to honour his pledge to give the British people a referendum on the EU Treaty.

In their 2005 election manifesto, Labour promised to hold a referendum on the EU Constitution

David stressed the Lisbon Treaty was a “re-branded” version of that Constitution and attacked Gordon Brown for having “flip-flopped”:

“First he was against the Constitution, then he was for it; one day he promised a referendum, the next he backtracked. While he has chopped and changed, our position has remained exactly the same. We are the only major party to have consistently said that it is up to the British people to decide on our future in Europe.”

David promised that if the Constitution was not in force at the time of the General Election, a Conservative Government would hold a referendum on it, urge a no vote, and reverse Britain’s ratification if successful.

He explained, “I believe that if you make a promise in your manifesto, and the country votes on that manifesto, then you are honour-bound to keep that promise.”

You can join our campaign by signing up to our Facebook page  or downloading our 'EU-turn' widget .

CLEARLY The Tory Party and the gonadically challenged wee  Boy King do not believe in the New Constitution aka Lisbon Treaty even pronouncing it as a sham.

They did virtually nothing in opposition to oppose this treacherous betrayal of the people of Britain and now shelter behind the weasel words of 'if the Constitution was not in force at the time of the General Election' .

In the parliamentary debate David Cameron lacked both the courage and the integrity to speak out and tell the truth - they assisted Gordon Brown in his betrayal of these United Kingdoms and the dishonest surrender to this squalid new CONSTITUTION which we now find within a year is being changed to prop up the failed EUro economy and the lies that were told to create it.

David Cameron and The Tories pretend to lead this Country and be the Government but they are the play pen Government of Westminster which is too guttless to do what they told everyone was against the democratic rights and interests of Britain TO GET INTO POWER.

The British Government has so little authority at Westminster that they haven't even got the courage or integrity to do what they said was right for Britain.

David Cameron if you lack the courage to do the honest and democratic things you PROMISED based on what was best for Britain and what you told people to get elected - You misled The Tory Party to get elected as leader - you misled the people to get elected to Government.

David Cameron grow up be a man and run along with your new best friend the duplicitous anti British creep Nick Clegg and get yourself both jobs in The EU - smarmy Nick Clegg the liar of student fees leader of next best to nothing - the Lib.Dims!!! can have Baroness Ashton's unelected job, Boy Dave can replace the near unknown British Commissioner & I'm sure you can find more than the required number of Damp Rags amongst the cabinet to fill the other roles whether duplicitous multi millionaire parasites completely out of touch with the people like you or not!

The British people were PROMISED a Referendum

The Conservative Party
The Lib.Dim Party
The Labour Party

HAVE without exception betrayed the peoples of BRITAIN

Give us OUR Referendum.

RIGHTS!

FRAUD? THEFT? DISHONESTY? YOU DECIDE
INTEGRITY? COMPETENCE? PROBITY? WISDOM? VALUE FOR MONEY?
YOU DECIDE ITS YOUR MONEY!

WE BELIEVE WE ARE ENTITLED TO HAVE A DEMOCRATIC SAY.

WE BELIEVE SELF DETERMINATION IS A FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT.

WE BELIEVE THE STATE IS THERE AS A SERVANT OF THE PEOPLE.

WE BELIEVE WE ARE ENTITLED TO AN IN / OUT REFERENDUM.

May I draw your attention to:

The Fundamental Declaration of The Rights of Man
Approved by:
the National Assembly of France, August 26, 1789

Even this declaration of The Rights of Man was more sophisticated and more honourable than The Unarguably Corrupt EUropean Union.

Even The Charter of The UN states that Self Determination is a fundamental human right!

The representatives of the French people, organized as a National Assembly, believing that the ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public calamities and of the corruption of governments, have determined to set forth in a solemn declaration the natural, unalienable, and sacred rights of man, in order that this declaration, being constantly before all the members of the Social body, shall remind them continually of their rights and duties; in order that the acts of the legislative power, as well as those of the executive power, may be compared at any moment with the objects and purposes of all political institutions and may thus be more respected, and, lastly, in order that the grievances of the citizens, based hereafter upon simple and incontestable principles, shall tend to the maintenance of the constitution and redound to the happiness of all.

Therefore the National Assembly recognizes and proclaims, in the presence and under the auspices of the Supreme Being, the following rights of man and of the citizen:

Articles:

1. Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions may be founded only upon the general good.

2. The aim of all political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.

3. The principle of all sovereignty resides essentially in the nation. No body nor individual may exercise any authority which does not proceed directly from the nation.

4. Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights. These limits can only be determined by law.

5. Law can only prohibit such actions as are hurtful to society. Nothing may be prevented which is not forbidden by law, and no one may be forced to do anything not provided for by law.

6. Law is the expression of the general will. Every citizen has a right to participate personally, or through his representative, in its foundation. It must be the same for all, whether it protects or punishes. All citizens, being equal in the eyes of the law, are equally eligible to all dignities and to all public positions and occupations, according to their abilities, and without distinction except that of their virtues and talents.

7. No person shall be accused, arrested, or imprisoned except in the cases and according to the forms prescribed by law. Any one soliciting, transmitting, executing, or causing to be executed, any arbitrary order, shall be punished. But any citizen summoned or arrested in virtue of the law shall submit without delay, as resistance constitutes an offense.

8. The law shall provide for such punishments only as are strictly and obviously necessary, and no one shall suffer punishment except it be legally inflicted in virtue of a law passed and promulgated before the commission of the offense.

9. As all persons are held innocent until they shall have been declared guilty, if arrest shall be deemed indispensable, all harshness not essential to the securing of the prisoner's person shall be severely repressed by law.

10. No one shall be disquieted on account of his opinions, including his religious views, provided their manifestation does not disturb the public order established by law.

11. The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this freedom as shall be defined by law.

12. The security of the rights of man and of the citizen requires public military forces. These forces are, therefore, established for the good of all and not for the personal advantage of those to whom they shall be intrusted.

13. A common contribution is essential for the maintenance of the public forces and for the cost of administration. This should be equitably distributed among all the citizens in proportion to their means.

14. All the citizens have a right to decide, either personally or by their representatives, as to the necessity of the public contribution; to grant this freely; to know to what uses it is put; and to fix the proportion, the mode of assessment and of collection and the duration of the taxes.

15. Society has the right to require of every public agent an account of his administration.

16. A society in which the observance of the law is not assured, nor the separation of powers defined, has no constitution at all.

17. Since property is an inviolable and sacred right, no one shall be deprived thereof except where public necessity, legally determined, shall clearly demand it, and then only on condition that the owner shall have been previously and equitably indemnified.
The EU is clearly a huge leap backwards and unarguably ultra vires to British Law, the British Constitution and even to Common Law.

SOME of The HIDDEN COSTS of EU MEMBERSHIP - Better-Off-OUT

SOME of The HIDDEN COSTS of EU MEMBERSHIP - Better-Off-OUT
Hi,

it is contended that Britain gets back £8.9 Billion from that which we give The EU to fund them - would that be better if they gave it ALL back?

well actually NO.

The daily cost of membership is currently £48 Million and rising.

As the BCC research clearly shows the average cost per annum of the regulations alone over the last 12 years has been £5,063,833,333 or £13,873,515 a day - that is a net daily loss making these United Kingdoms ever less competitive.

Let us look at the rebate - firstly was it for projects which were of benefit to Britain that we actually wanted, may I give two small examples one being the widening of roads and strengthening of bridges to accomodate continental freight. How can this be seen as of benefit to Britain as we note the damage to the west bound carriageway of the M$ relative to the east bound as a result of the continental heavy loaded trucks heading, without stopping, to Eire (they buy no food or fuel in Britain merely paying a French company a tarriff or tax to cross the river Severn.

Consider also the destruction of many town centers by our own councils implementing unwanted, badly planned, tasteless and utterly inappropriate homogenising schemes to get some of our own money back as grants to empire build in councils Aberystwyth, Barnstable & Chepstow are classic examples!

That we are expected to advertise The EU as the generous benefactor when they give OUR money back minus their scams and bribes is a travesty - that the money is only available for THEIR approved scams and that we are forced to match fund these unwanted projects is institutionalised theft & corruption assisted by the weak & corrupt overblown, over paid and largely useless councill officials.

The more of OUR money which the EU refunds with strings attached the more The EU costs us.

To date NO ONE has EVER shown a benefit of membership that even begins to justify the moral or financial costs let alone the damage to our Country and OUR society.

How dare these odious lick spittles of The EU arrogate to themselves the right to tell us what we want!

Might the loss of spirit of the peoples of this Country give rise to the Labour fueled efforts to grow the Kleptocratic QUANGOcracy and bloat councils to generate a salary vote.

Might it be the realisation that the standards of common sense & education of the people of Britain would ensure Labour's failure at the ballott box and why they grew councils like Tower Hamlets with a strangely un-natural agenda to judge by the councillors:

Is this really a benefit of EU membership when one considers how relatively racially relaxed Britain was prior to EU regulations which have largely bred hatred and contempt - if not for the French, Dutch, Spaniards etc. who arrogate to make law FOR US.

We will be notably Better-Off-Out when we Leave-The-EU.

It may be some years before we are better off financially but in terms of morality, integration and self respect the gain will be immediate and as the IPPR report shows we can expect a net gain in employment and a marked upturn commercially.

15 M watch CORONATION St. - DO THE APATHETIC SHEEPLE BRITS WANT BRITAIN BACK?

ACTUALLY,

DO MOST OF YOU WANT OUR NATION BACK?

09.12.10, 12:04pm
Look at the most recent figures:
44 milllion have a vote.

20 million don't use it.
21 million vote FOR the EU by supporting the LibLabCon.
0.5 million support the other pro EU parties.
1.5 million vote UKIP.
1 million support the other anti EU parties.

In other words:
2.5 million say "NO" to the EU,
21.5 million say "YES" to the EU and
20 million are more interested in who survived the Coronation Street crash (for example) than getting a decent living standard and future for their children by leaving the EU.

Oh well, when it all goes wrong, and 41.5 million people are asking "Why? How did this happen?" at least 2.5 million can sit back and say "We did our best, but you wouldn't listen".

FLOOD OF SUPPORT FOR OUR EU CRUSADE

A selection of the huge pile of letters containing our Daily Express crusade coupons ......
by Macer Hall

MORE than 100,000 people have signed up to the Daily Express’s crusade for Britain to quit the European Union, it can be revealed today.
The newspaper has received a deluge of our special crusade coupons calling on David Cameron’s Government to organise an orderly withdrawal from the EU.
Support has hit six figures in just over a week since the historic crusade was launched. It is on course to become the fastest growing campaign in newspaper history.
Last night the colossal surge of support was being viewed as a stark warning to Brussels that Britain has had enough of meddling and an ever-growing tax burden.

Tory MP Philip Davies, a member of the Better Off Out group of MPs, said: “This is an absolutely amazing response. It reveals the pent up frustration among the public that none of the mainstream political parties are speaking up for what they believe in.”
UK Independence Party peer Lord Pearson said: “This is a huge level of support from the great British public to the greatest British newspaper. The strength of feeling shown by Daily Express readers reflects the growing support across the country for withdrawal.”
A survey by pollsters Angus Reid earlier this week showed that 48 per cent of voters asked want Britain freed from the yoke of Brussels while 59 per cent believe EU membership has damaged the UK.
And support among Daily Express readers for withdrawal from the EU is overwhelming, with 99 per cent of the tens of thousands of callers who rang this newspaper’s exclusive phone poll backing an exit for Britain.

Reader Graham Anthony, 39, a music studio manager from Glastonbury, Somerset, said: “We’ve got our own pound, our own currency. We don’t need to be in, half of Europe is falling apart at the moment.”
Ina Lewis, a 45-year-old civil servant from Liverpool, said: “We’re better looking after our own interests. Making our own decisions over our affairs would be better.”

07-Dec-2010 - A New COMRES Poll SHOWS 75% of Brits want less spent on The EU

COMRES Poll (December 7)

An exclusive ComRes poll for the EU Referendum Campaign found that 75% of the British public feel that the Government spends too much on the EU.

Jon Gaunt, leading spokesman for the EU Referendum Campaign said: "Again this is further proof that the political elite  are out of touch with the British public.

"David Cameron has increased foreign aid, agreed to give the EU another £450 million a year and is handing out £7 BILLION of our money to Ireland  while his Chancellor is telling us to tighten our belts!"

EU CRUSADE: MOST AGREE BEING IN EU HAS HARMED BRITAIN

Statistics follow the Daily Express crusade to get Britain out of the EU.
Tuesday December 7,2010

By Macer Hall

NEARLY two thirds of Britons believe our country has been damaged by membership of the European Union, an opinion poll revealed last night.
Some 59 per cent of voters said Brussels has had a “negative” impact on the UK.
And for the first time in nearly four decades, almost half of them think we should quit the EU.
Public opposition to the EU appears to be hardening after billions of taxpayers’ money was poured into bail-outs for failing euro-zone economies.
The evidence of growing disillusionment with Brussels was revealed in a survey of more than 2,000 voters across the country by pollsters Angus Reid.
It follows the launch of the Daily Express crusade to get Britain out of the EU.
Last night, Eurosceptic campaigners seized on the findings as confirmation that the time has come for the UK to quit.
Tory MP Douglas Carswell said: “This is very encouraging. It shows there is a huge number of people in the country who feel really strongly about this.
“Only the Daily Express and a few MPs at Westminster are speaking up for them. This is why the Daily Express needs to carry on with its crusade against Britain staying in the EU.
“This poll shows that wanting to leave the EU is no longer a fringe issue but has reached the mainstream of political opinion in this country.”

The poll found 30 per cent thought EU membership had been “very negative” for the UK while another 29 per cent said it had been “moderately negative”.
Even more significant was the growing support among voters for withdrawal.
Asked how they would vote if a referendum on EU membership was held in Britain, 48 per cent said they would vote against staying in the EU.
In June, the figure was 42 per cent, indicating support for withdrawal has grown. Only 27 per cent now want to stay in the EU.
Voters strongly oppose scrapping the pound. Eighty per cent said they would vote No in a referendum on whether Britain should join the euro, with just eight per cent in favour. UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, said: “This poll shows what people have known for a long time, but politicians refuse to acknowledge: EU membership is damaging our country.
“According to the three questions asked by the pollsters the answers are: we don’t like it, we don’t want it and we want to leave. Will our political class finally listen?”

BOOKWORM WHO TOOK ON BIG BEASTS OF EUROPE

Story Image
Sunday December 5,2010

By Kirsty Buchanan

HE LISTS his hobbies in Who’s Who as “fighting Eurocrats and chopping firewood”, but until six years ago Toby Blackwell scarcely spared Brussels a thought. It was only in 2004, when the head of the Blackwell bookshop chain was given some holiday reading, that he changed his mind on the European Union for good.
The book was called A Cost Too Far and, at the age of 75, it set Mr Blackwell on a new crusade.

Written by Ian Milne and published by the highly respected think tank Civitas, it catalogues the eye-watering cost of Britain’s membership of the European Union and argues that there would be no net loss of jobs or trade if we were to leave.

“This book started it. This was my road to Damascus,” says Mr Blackwell, now 81. “My wife was going out to the temples and markets and I just stayed behind to read it.

“I was lucky enough to go to Winchester, where some long suffering don taught me maths. I have the power of logic and the power to think for myself.

“I am a simple guy. I think that you face a problem, collect the facts, analyse the facts make objective decisions from the facts and then try and do something about it.

“This is not politically driven. It is 100 per cent logic. I have read everything you can possibly think of on this and what it comes down to is this: if we get out of Europe, it will save us £100billion a year. That is not opinion, it is fact.”

Now Mr Blackwell is putting his money into the EU Referendum Campaign, which will put pressure on ministers to give voters the democratic vote they so clearly want.

It is designed to be a grassroots, cross-party campaign and it could not have come at a more appropriate time.
A multi-billion euro begging bowl is being scooped dry, as a queue of humiliated, debt-lashed eurozone nations hold their hands out, asking for help.

Meanwhile, Britain has suffered a severe setback in dealing with its own debts after handing £7billion over to crisis-hit Ireland. It is the same amount of money we have shaved off public spending in 2010.

Yet while Britons are denied a referendum on Europe, the nation is being given a £12million vote on an electoral reform so dreary that not even the Liberal Democrats can get excited about it.

“On one hand we have this Government trying to find £83billion worth of cuts, yet this would save £100billion a year,” says Mr Blackwell.

“It would take a couple of years to come through but if we did this then we don’t have to put up VAT, we don’t have to have any cuts, we don’t have to get rid of the Harriers, we can sort out higher education.”

The campaign was launched just three months ago, but already tens of thousands of voters have registered their demand for a referendum on whether Britain should remain in the EU on its website.

The campaign has commissioned polls which suggest a vote would be decisively in favour of British withdrawal from the EU. The campaign is also targeting MPs and asking them to sign up to The Pledge, backing calls for an EU referendum.

A ny MP or prospective parliamentary candidate who refuses will find themselves targeted with leaflet drops and petitions. MPs in marginal seats could find the number of voters who sign up to The Pledge is greater than the size of their majority at the last election.

“The political elite of all parties have consistently ignored our right to vote on the most important of all issues,” states The Pledge.

“The intention of our campaign is to amass and place on public record the names of all of you who demand the right to be consulted in a legally binding referendum.” The campaign deliberately echoes the Tea Party in the US, though the EU Referendum Campaign is not aligned with any political party.

That suits Mr Blackwell just fine because, by and large, he has a fairly low opinion of politicians. Has he ever thought of going into politics?

“Good God no,” he says, “I don’t do politics. The politicians just want this issue to go away, they are enjoying being in power and they don’t want anything to upset it.

“If we are going to win, we have got to win with the people.”

Mr Blackwell’s only foray into the world of politics was a rather ill- fated and short-lived stint on the now defunct Training and Enterprise Council. It was enough to keep him off the red benches for life. What he calls a “Sir Humphrey type” told Mr Blackwell he had been officially classed as a NOGOBE, “Never going to be an OBE”.

However, the idea of a grassroots movement clearly appeals to Mr Blackwell, who exudes an energy which belies his years.
A former Parachute regiment reservist, he likes nothing better on a Saturday lunchtime than to sneak off to the local for a pint with his mates.

He has given away his ownership shares to Blackwell staff in a John Lewis-style partnership to secure the bookstore’s future as a private company. He thinks it will ensure all of the employees take responsibility as well as sharing in the rewards. “Everyone matters,” says Mr Blackwell.

The company was founded by Benjamin Harris Blackwell in 1879 and today employs 949 people. It has a total of 77 shops, including 37 bookshops and 40 stores on college and university campuses.

Now life president of Blackwell and the last member of his family to be involved with the business, Mr Blackwell has described his 55 years at the firm as “Hell on Earth”.

However, the decades of hard work have allowed him to support his private interests (he recently handed over a £5million grant to the Bodleian Library in Oxford) and given him the financial power to play the politicians at their own game.

Last rites for the Euro?

I can reveal that last week, whilst MEPs were in Strasbourg, a delegation from the European Commission paid a visit to London for hush-hush high level discussions with the British government concerning the perilous state of the Euro.

The same week, on Thursday, the heads of the Commission's Directorates were given orders not to discuss the Euro, or to speculate on its future, under any circumstances.

Just how bad is the economic crisis in the EU? Worse than the Commission would have us believe, it would appear. In the last hour it has been announced that three member states have had to apply for aid in order to deal with rising unemployment.

EU adjustment Fund aid worth more than €8.7 million for workers in Spain, Poland and the Netherlands was approved by Parliament's Budgets Committee this morning.

In total, 2,312 redundant workers (retail trade, car and construction sectors) in Spain, 779 former workers in the car and ship building industry in Poland and 613 ex-employees in the ICT sector in the Netherlands are set to receive support.

The Spanish authorities applied for aid to unemployed workers in three regions: Valencia (several firms in the construction and textile sector), Catalonia (the Lear company, producing electrical equipment for cars) and Aragón (several firms in the retail trade sector).

The two Polish applications concern the Wielkopolskie province (two firms in the car industry) and the H.Cegielski-Poznań company, the only Polish manufacturer of marine engines, plus its suppliers.

The Dutch application is for two ICT companies, Getronics and HP, in the region of Noord Holland.
